SUMMARY

Formerly known as the Wyly Community Art Center, the Art Base was founded in 1996 by artist and teacher Deborah Jones, as a project of Compass in Woody Creek, Colorado.

The mission of the organization is to foster creative expression in the visual arts for all ages and abilities, through education, exhibitions, and opportunities to artists and artisans.

Each summer the Art Base hosts a gala to raise funds for both its gallery and education programs. In 2023, I was asked to design the event look and materials.

I originally presented three ideas: one that played with typography, letter shapes, and reversing letters out, one featuring an abstract representation of the Town of Basalt’s two rivers, and one utilizing a pattern of random, organic paint strokes. The team from TAB chose the third idea.
